Quick hands

A hands battle is won by the player with the more compact swing. This is one played at a pace you can learn from, and it’s a game, so it stays honest.

Setup

  • Both at the kitchen line, straight across, paddles up in front.
  • Agree first: volleys go at the paddle side, never at the body or the face.

How it works

  1. One player starts with a firm ball at the other’s paddle.
  2. Volley back and forth, out of the air. Short punches, no backswing.
  3. The first player to pop a ball up (above shoulder height) or miss it loses the point.
  4. Play to 7, then swap who starts.

A point of quick hands
  1. Straight across, both at the kitchen line, paddles up. P1 starts it.
  2. Firm, at P2's paddle side, not at the body.
  3. P2 blocks it back, compact, out of the air.
  4. And again, to the other side.
  5. P2's paddle opens and the ball pops up.
  6. P1 puts it away: a point. First to 7.

Turn the dial

Easier: half pace, and count how many you can keep going together instead of playing for points.

Harder: every fourth ball goes to the other side of the body, backhand to forehand.
