What we keep

As little as the site needs to work. No ads, nothing sold, nothing shared for marketing.

Without an account

Reading lessons, watching videos and using the whiteboard need nothing from you. Your quiz scores, and the play you are drawing on the whiteboard, are kept in your own browser and never leave it.

Visits are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and does not follow you across sites.

We also count how many people read each lesson, once per person per day. To tell one reader from another without knowing who they are, our server keeps a scrambled code made from the day and your IP address. The address itself is never stored, the code can't be turned back into it, and it changes every day, so your reading can't be followed from one day to the next. These counts are deleted after 90 days.

If a page breaks in your browser, it tells our server what went wrong so we can fix it: the error, the page's address without anything after a "?", and your browser's name and version. Nothing that says who you are, even when you are signed in. These reports are deleted after 30 days.

Sending feedback

When you send us a message through Feedback, we keep the message, the page you came from, and your email address if you give one. If you are signed in, we also note which account sent it.

This is the one place we keep your IP address and your browser's name and version as they are: to tell real messages from spam, and to see what a problem happened on. Both are removed from the message after 90 days. The message itself is kept.

Only the people who run CourtChalk can read these messages.

Talking to the coach

Your answers to the coach are sent to the AI model that writes your plan. The model runs on a service outside CourtChalk: it gets your answers (and, for a new plan, how your last one went), never your name or email address. They are also kept on our server:

With an account

We email you the sign-in links you ask for, and, if it is switched on, a weekly email about your plan and what's new on the site. Every weekly email has a one-click way to stop it, and your account's settings have the same switch.

The people who run CourtChalk can see your account (your email address, your plans and progress, your saved plays and your conversations with the coach) to look after the site and to help if something goes wrong. Nobody else can.

Cookies

Deleting it

In your account's settings, "Delete my account" removes your account, your plans and your progress straight away. The coach's record of answers, which has no name or email in it, is not removed. Feedback you sent while signed in is kept, without your account or the email address you gave.

Everything the site keeps is backed up nightly on our own server; backups are kept for 14 days.
