Third-Shot Drop and Double Advance
The foundational pattern. P1 drops the third shot cross-court to the opponent's feet in the kitchen and both players advance from the baseline; the opponent dinks it back cross-court, the team takes it at the line and resets into a neutral dink.
P1 and P2 play together, against P3 and P4. Press play to watch it, or step through it one shot at a time; the step on the court is highlighted below.

- Serving team stuck at the baseline; the returners are already at the line.
- Drop by P1: Soft, cross-court, into their kitchen. P1 and P2 move up while it is in the air.
- Dink by P4: All they can do is lift it back. That slowness is what buys the ground.
- Dink by P1: Both teams at the line, nobody ahead. For the serving team that is a win.
